Switzerland votes to ban violent computer games

Switzerland’s parliament has passed a law that could lead to the outright ban of violent games, in a first proposal put forward last month, calling for the banning of any game that “requires cruel acts of violence against humans and human-like creatures for in-game success”
In February, two resolutions were passed; the first made the purchase of any game not carrying a PEGI age rating illegal, and required stricter rules on the requirements of ID.
The second resolution was the more interesting one, although it passed with a split vote of nine to three. It potentially gave the Swiss government the power to ban violent games. As the vote was split The Swiss Law Commission sought advice on the issue from retail and industry bodies before presenting this to government.
A month on and this resolution has now passed as law, but according to a GamesMarkt report, even tho the request has now been accepted, the government needs to decide on the specifics of the new law.
The most likely outcome is a total ban on anything deemed unsuitable, so PEGI 16+ and 18+ games are set to be gone.
The next step will probably be TV and the Internet; as violence is what the government is looking after.

Poor, poor show Switzerland. GTA should be beyond banning.. If parents can’t control their little brats then they certainly shouldnt be banning what responsible people can do.
